About Luke

The Luke Wingard Foundation was created to carry on Luke’s legacy.

Although Luke died by suicide at 17, he is so much more than how he died.

Luke always chose kindness. He knew that something as simple as a smile could change the trajectory of someone’s day. If he saw someone who didn’t feel included, he would sit quietly with them and try to make them smile. He had a way of making people feel seen.

Luke worked every day at being his true, authentic self. He tried not to care what other people thought of him—and that often meant wearing crazy costumes and outfits whenever the opportunity presented itself. He wasn’t afraid to be silly, stand out, sing at the top of his lungs, dance around, or simply be Luke.

Luke had plans to attend Montana State University and major in secondary education. He believed his story and his experiences could help other teenagers. He wanted to make an impression, to make a difference, and to be there for anyone who needed a little inspiration, kindness, or understanding.

So that is how we will carry him with us.

Smile at a stranger.

Say hello to someone as you pass them in the hall.

Sit with the person who feels left out.

Don’t hold a grudge.

Be inclusive.

Be yourself.

Sing loudly.

Dance freely.

Choose kindness.

These are small things. But Luke knew small things could make a big difference.

This is how we will keep Luke’s memory alive.

We should all, LIVE LIKE LUKE.
